Honey Well RTH8580WF & EWC ST 2E

Post by hammermawl »

Hi,

I am looking to upgrade to wifi t-stats and purchased a Honey Well RTH8580WF to replace my main tstat which is a White Rodgers 1f80-51.

I would like to DIY and have a question about my EWC ST 2E and the installation. I have 6 wires to the 1f80-51 they are RH (jumped to RC), W, O, Y, B, and G.

I also have 2 other t-stats connected to the ST 2 E that I would eventually upgrade to wifi.

I am not sure what to do with the O & B wires as the 8580 said the b should go to the c to provide the 24vac?

Does the O go to the W?

Do I need to install a MCS-DXB for every wifi tstat I install? Or do I upgrade the panel to the 5000?

I am determined to do this myself and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Best,

Andrew

You will need to up grade your zone board to a NCM-300. The ST board needs to be operated with a thermostat that works a "O" -"B" terminal not a O/B terminal.

Thanks Dadiez,

Has anyone hooked the 8580 up to a zone panel before?

I am still not sure what to do with the O & B wires?

If I am not mistaken the O & B off the old 1f80 -51 tstat worked the heat & A/C.

Appreciate any help.

Best,

Andrew

Yes they get hooked up all the time with any board other then the ST series board. The "o"-"B" terminals operate the reversing valve on heat pump systems. It does not sound like you have a heat pump system, so do not worry about "O" "B" terminals on the thermostat.

Thanks.

No I don't have a heat pump.

I think the thermostat I plan to upgrade is the master.

Could the other tstats feed off of this one?

I am not sure what the o&b does with the 1f80-51 control the heating and cooling on & off for the other tstats is my guess?

How will I wire the 8580 once I upgrade to the NCM-300?

Thanks,

Andrew
